1st Glorious Epochs of India
Have been reading the book "Six Glorious Epochs of Indian History" by V D Savarkar. Would be writing a short review and understanding.
The first chapter: Chanakya - Chandragupta
Savarkar starts his book with the time period when Alexander attacked India. This was the period when Indian civilization existed till Hindukush and Gandhar (now Kandhar). This region was divided into various small kingdoms. This made it easy for Alexander to conquer it one by one. Greeks were called "Yavanas" or "Yons" by people in Bharat. Indians were called "Anwayan", which is thought of somehow became Indians over the time.
One of the famouns first mighty fall from Bharat side was King Porus. King Porus was a famous Indian king, his real name was Purushotama. He belonged to PURU tribe mentioned in RIG VEDA, the Ancient books of India. Porus ruled the Punjab region and expanded his kingdom between the Jhelum River and Chenab River in the Indian Subcontinent. He lost battle due to flood on the river, where his chariots and elephants were not of much use. Due to the situation and tactics of Alexander he lost the battle.

Alexander returned him his territory and made him a governor, now Sartap Porus. . Porus helped Alexander in his future battles.
In his ongoing conquests, step by step on small kingdoms, Alexander came across people who would die for freedom. Women doing johah (jai har) to avoid being captivated by foreign entities. For them their freedom and honor was of most importance. Each of these battles were tiring and had a toll on Greek soldiers. Their willingness to go forward with Alexander to conquer India was going low. They have not even faced larger kingdoms and Magadha, which was aim of Alexander. This was on the banks of the Vyas (Beas river). With his unwilling army he decided to return through the Indus. He conquered few terretories along the banks of the river. Alexander returned from the doors of India and was never able to go past.
This particular campaign was the founding thought of Chanakya. He thought of creating an India which was one big nation and together they can be strong nation, a unified entitiy which cannot be brought down by the foreign forces. With this aim, he motivated and guided Chandragupta Morya to make Bharat one strong nation.
Such was the might of Chandragupta that even the greated general of Alexander's army Selucus Nicator was defeated and forced to give avay his conquered territory till todays date Afghanistan. Such big was this great nation under Chandragupta.
He calls Chandragupta "super Alexander" In my words Alexander ka baap!!
